The primary focus will be preparing family style dinners with meal prep for easy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks available in the refrigerator that the family can access at their leisure. Majority of the diet is Mediterranean/ California-style with a focus on health-forward cuisine and seasonal produce. Typical responsibilities include: menu planning, grocery shopping, preparing dinner and prep for healthy light lunch and breakfast items, kitchen clean up, maintaining & organizing the kitchen/ pantry/ fridge, and ensuring necessary items stay well stocked. There is a tree nut allergy in the home; however, these items are consumed in moderation, as prescribed by a doctor as a treatment.
Ideal candidates will have a proven career in private homes with a strong background in healthy, tasteful. ingredient-driven, cooking. Must be family and dog friendly! The family entertains very occasionally, usually hosting other couples.
Schedule is Monday to Friday and relaxed family-style dinner is served around 6:30. For the most part, dinner will be prepared fresh and displayed family style, at which point Chef is free to depart. Family serves, eats and cleans independently. Family is flexible if chef would like to do shopping and light prep offsite and arrive in the afternoon to finalize any food, prepare dinner and clean-up. Housekeeping responsibilities include: the daily upkeep and organization of the home, deep cleaning, family laundry, and helping to ensure the apartment remains tidy. For the first few months, cooking responsibilities will include preparing a simple lunch for one teenager as well as dinner for the family; longer term, the cooking portion of the role will primarily focus on family dinners. Dinners are family-style meals for four, with an emphasis on quality proteins, fresh vegetables, wholesome ingredients, and approachable dishes the entire family will enjoy. Lunch is eaten around 12:30/1pm and dinner is typically around 6pm. One child has Celiac disease so all main dishes must be strictly gluten-free. There is an immunocompromised child in the home, so the ideal candidate must be fully vaccinated and comfortable temporarily wearing a mask. Applicants must be comfortable communicating in English. The family primarily needs coverage Monday through Thursday, with occasional Fridays. The initial schedule will be approximately 11:30am to 7pm through at least October, potentially longer, and will later transition to less hours, approximately 1pm to 7pm. Salary range: $35–40/hr.
