Governess/Teacher, Full-time, Live-in or Out
A family in Irvington, NY needs to hire an educated Governess/Teacher who can home-school three elementary-age children. The ideal candidate will have a teaching degree and be an articulate, engaging, and proactive individual who can easily adapt to working in a fast-paced and dynamic family environment, with a hands-on mother. The family would like to find someone who has experience with navigating New York State’s homeschooling process, or someone who is comfortable researching all necessary information. Duties will revolve around preparing and delivering instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences, such as developing lesson plans, establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities, preparing the classroom for activities, providing a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities, identifying and selecting different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs, instructing and monitoring children in the use of learning materials and equipment, using relevant technology to support instruction, observing and evaluating student’s performance and development, assign and grade classwork, homework tests and assignments, providing appropriate feedback on work, encouraging and monitoring the progress of each child, maintaining accurate and complete records of children’s progress and development, updating all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations. The schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 3pm, possibly earlier, with a break in the day. The position is live-in but the family is also open to considering local candidates who can safely commute to the home.
