The Ultimate Seasonal Home Checklist for a Smooth Fall Transition
As summer fades, the crisp fall air comes to bring a new rhythm into the home! Goodbye swimsuits and hello cozy sweaters! But this seasonal shift requires a bit more attention and care behind the scenes. Changing seasons are often when a Household Manager can truly shine!
A House Manager is someone who oversees the day-to-day tasks in a home. Typically, their main responsibilities include managing the home/property, handling budgets, coordinating with maintenance, errands, and more! They are the backbone of many smooth-running homes! Here are some of the main house manager responsibilities when fall begins:
INTERIOR TASKS
- Swapping wardrobe: One of the most important and most fun parts of cooler weather is finding your looks for the season! It’s finally time for your favorite coat and fuzzy socks! This can also be a great time to go through things that do and don’t fit your children anymore
- Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors – avoid those annoying chirps!
- Inspect door and windows for any gaps – caulking these early can help prepare the home for storms and little critters looking for somewhere warm to sleep.
- Clean out the dryer vent – This won’t only prevent fire, but also will help your clothes dry more efficiently
- Stock pantries with autumn favorites – time for apple cider, butternut squash, and pumpkin!
- Organize your space – fall cleaning is a great excuse to declutter and try out new ways to arrange your storage.
EXTERIOR TASKS
- Clean the gutters – Not usually the most fun item on the to-do list, but it can prevent roof leaks and water damage!
- Wrap insulation around outdoor faucets and pipes – doing this can also prevent water damage!
- Rake the leaves – Be sure to get a good jump in there too!
- Chimney sweep – If you have a chimney, be sure to have it cleaned before you begin using it.
- HVAC check-in – the HVAC system and furnace should be serviced early in the season! Check those filters too!
COZY FALL TOUCHES
- Autumn decorations – from Halloween’s ghosts and pumpkins to Thanksgiving turkeys and squash, autumn has some of the most fun decoration challenges!
- Try an apple spice or a woodsy candle – a fall candle can help us embrace the new season!
