Wild Parrot Safari: The wild Brooklyn Parrots have been living on and around Brooklyn College since the early 1970’s. They are considered to be one of the oldest self-sustaining wild parrot colonies in Brooklyn and on Saturday, January 7th, 2017, families can join the tour to observe and learn about the history of their colony.
Tours for Fours: The Tours for Fours weekly weekend event at the Museum of Modern Art allows kids and adults to participate in various gallery activities. Younger children will enjoy this opportunity to learn about modern and contemporary art.
Joe and the Skyscraper: The Skyscraper Museum in Lower Manhattan has a rotation of family programs on Saturday mornings. On Saturday, January 7th, 2017, children can find out more about the basics of architecture through reading Joe and the Skyscraper. This book is about a boy who worked on the construction of the Empire State Building. Afterward, the kids will design their own skyscraper using various materials.
Playing by Air: Playing by Air is the handiwork of three well-renowned performers who came together to create an interactive production featuring juggling, engaging characters, and musical instruments.
Teddy Bear Tea: Teddy Bear Tea is geared for children ages 3 to 6 years old and is held at the Mount Vernon Hotel. Children can bring their favorite teddy bear or doll to meet Mrs. Woodhull, the proprietor’s wife, and have fruit tea and cookies after discovering more about the hotel’s history.
Shababa Saturdays: Held at the 92nd Street Y, Shababa Saturdays is a relaxed environment for babies, toddlers, and other children to understand more about Shabbat. Families can enjoy traditional and non-traditional music, prayer, and art.
Family Game Days: The Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut has brought back “Family Game Days,” considered to be a favorite of parents and children. The event will run every Saturday in January and participants will have their pick of supersized games and activities such as checkers, four-in-a-row, and building blocks.
Maritime Aquarium: Another fun aquarium to visit in Connecticut is the Maritime Aquarium. Its “Animals Without Passports” exhibit recently opened and the 15th Annual “Festival of Lighthouses” Contest is now in session until January 16th, 2017. Visitors can cast a ballot and vote for their favorite and the grand prize winner wins $1,500.
