This weekend’s activities feature a number of dance-centric events and programs taking place around New York as well as celebrations to kick-off the start of Purim.
The Saturday Morning Show: This Saturday’s performance of Saturday Morning Show at Brookfield Place features musical performances by Sweetbeatz and Seth Dale. Sweetbeatz is the brainchild of Meredith Wright, a vocalist/songwriter who combines music, theatre and family into a soulful combination. Seth Dale is a family-friendly magician who can entertain audiences of any size.
Terrariums: On Saturday, March 11th, children can visit Wave Hill to design and build their own terrarium using a selection of miniature plants perfect for any kid’s room. Gardener Albert Cabrera will provide plants, materials and assistance. This program is geared towards children ages 8-years-old and older.
Holi: The Festival of Colors: Holi is an annual festival that takes place in the spring, and is known as the festival or colors or the festival of sharing love. In its honor, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan has set-up a daylong series of workshops including sand art projects as well as fabric prints and textile design. Children can also participate in a Bollywood dance workshop, and learn more about the significance and origins of Holi during a book reading.
Family Friendly Restaurant Series: The FiDi Families and Project Playdate’s group has organized a new restaurant series for families with children ages three-years-old and up. The two-hour brunch includes food as well as enriching activities for children. The dates are as follows: March 12th, April 9th, a Mother’s Day themed brunch on May 14th, and June 11th, 2017.
Annual St. Patrick’s Open Day: The annual St. Patrick’s Open Day is scheduled for Sunday, March 12th, 2017, from 12pm to 4pm. Children can get their face painted, partake in arts and crafts, and check out short films from Ireland’s best animators. Participants will also learn how to make Irish soda bread. The Irish Arts Center is located in Midtown-Manhattan.
Family Fun: Bollyx: This Bollywood-inspired dance fitness workshop combines choreography and upbeat music for the whole family to enjoy. The interactive class takes place on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at the Mark Morris Dance Group, located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Cool Kid’s Dance Party: CirKiz is a dance party for kids, focusing on children ages 7-12 years of age. During this unique program, kids can get a dose of exercise by dancing up a storm, interacting with other kids, and being wowed by innovative light shows. Children outside of this age range are welcome, provided that they are accompanied by an adult. The event takes place at Space Ibiza, located at West 50th Street in Midtown-Manhattan. The dates are as follows: March 12th, April 23rd, and June 4th.
Purim Carnival: This year’s Purim festivities begin on the evening of Saturday, March 11th and commence the night of Sunday, March 12th. To start the celebrations on Saturday, March 11th, 2017, the West End Synagogue is hosting a Purim carnival, a family-friendly Megilah reading, and then concluding with their world-famous Purim shpiel. Refreshments will be provided.
Purim Party: The Chabad of the Lower East Side will host their Purim carnival on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at Pier 36. There will be live music, dancing, refreshments, and a Fire and Ice Mad Science Show. Additional Purim parties on that day occur in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill and at the 92nd Street Y.
